Upon arrival guests should be adorned with colourful leis and a freshly picked hibiscus flower placed perfectly behind their ear. Direct them to your party area that is decorated using bright colours, loads of colouful cushions, white beach sand, your brother's surfboard....anything that looks like a tropical holiday destination.
Musical Towels: Play this game in the same manner as musical chairs, using brightly coloured beach towels in lieu of chairs. Put on the dance music, when the music stops, each player must quickly find and sit on a beach towel. Remove one towel each round. Players are eliminated if they have not been able to sit on one of the remaining towels.
Limbo: Hold the limbo stick at both ends, have each player walk under the limbo stick without touching. Make it a little more interesting by issuing limbo challenges such as - whistling happy birthday, wiggle your hula hips....
Pass the Coconut: Divide your guests into two team lines, standing one behind the other. Give each team a coconut which is tucked under the chin of the first person in line. The coconut is passed down the line chin to chin. When the coconut gets to the last person, they come to the front of the line and start again. The winning team is the first one that gets their starting person to the front again.
Hawaiian Beach Relay: Divide guests into 2 teams. Each team is provided a two of the following items - grass skirt, Leis, beach chair, umbrella, pair of sunglasses, towel and one camera. A relay race is run where two team members must run to a relay check point and create their beach scene by wearing items of clothing, setting up the beach chair, towel etc. Once this has been completed, they must take a tropical holiday "snap" and then unpack, run back to their team line and tag the next 2 team members. The team who completes the relay the fastest wins.
Hula Hoop Challenge: Put on your Hawaiian music and grass skirts. Have your very own hula hoop competition to see who can hula the longest. Alternatively you ask your guests to form a big circle and hold hands. Place two Hula-Hoops in the circle by having two sets of players put their hands through the Hula-Hoops and hold hands again. The object of the game is to pass the Hula-Hoop though their body and onto the next player as fast as they can with out letting go of hands while the music is playing. Whoever has the hula-hoop wrapped around their body when the music stops will be out until the last person is left. Play an up tempo song like The Twist for about 15 seconds at a time so that the game won’t go on too long.
